Kursk NPP produced 2.796 billion kWh of electricity in February

12.03.2015

In February 2015, the power units of Kursk nuclear power plant produced 2.796 billion kWh of electricity exceeding the monthly target level by 5.6%, according to the power plant's press service.

Supplies of electricity to consumers reached 2.604 billion kWh.

Since the Kursk NPP was launched in 1976, it has produced 807.7 billion kWh of electricity.

All the power units are currently in operation at the NPP, their capacity meeting the operating schedule.

The radiation level at the nuclear power plant and in the surrounding area is typical for the normal operation of the power units and does not exceed the natural background levels.

The Kursk nuclear power plant is operating as a branch of Rosenergoatom. The NPP is located in Kursk region 4 km away from Kurchatov city, 40 km away from Kursk. The NPP uses water-cooled graphite-moderated channel-type reactors, their combined installed capacity is 4,000 MW. The Kursk NPP accounts for more than 50% of the total installed capacity of all the power stations in the Black Earth Belt. The power plant supplies electricity to most of Kursk region's industrial enterprises.

The core business of Rosenergoatom (REA, tax number: 7721632827) is the generation of electricity using its nuclear power plants. The concern unites all ten nuclear power plants of Russia operating as its branches, along with the generating company's service entities.

In total, 33 power units are in operation at Russia's nuclear power plants: 17 power units of the VVER type (water-water power reactors), 15 power units with channel-type reactors, 1 sodium cooled fast reactor-based power unit (BN-600). The nuclear power plants account for ca. 17% of the total electricity output in Russia.
