Kursk region ranks second in meat production in Russia’s Central federal district
Traditionally, last year’s performance is summarized in Kursk region’s cattle breeding sector in early February. Alexander Tymoshenko, first Deputy Chairman of the regional Agriculture Committee, commented on the situation in the industry, the press service of the government of Kursk region informed.
In 2015, the region produced 437,000 tonnes of poultry meat and cattle (live weight), 50,000 tonnes (13%) more than in 2014, and four times above the local consumption.
Among the 17 regions of Russia’s Central Federal district, Kursk region ranks second in meat production by all types of agricultural producers and is unrivaled in the growth of live-weight pig production for slaughter,” Alexander Timoshenko said.
The best performers in 2015 include Agropromkomplektatsiya-Kursk LLC, Pristensky Pig Farm LLC, Vozrozhdenie LLC (Pristensky district), OJSC Nadezhda (Bolshesoldatsky district), Pselskoye LLC (Belovsky district). The first three companies produce 75% of all pork in the region.
Poultry accounts for 34% of the total output. Over the past year, poultry production in the region increased by 6% reaching 138,000 tonnes. Belaya Pritsa-Kursk LLC (Gorshechensky district) accounted for 80% of the total poultry production.
Turkey meat production is also growing. In particular, OJSC Yastrebovskoye (Manturovsky district) increased production by 14% year-on-year to 1,477 tonnes of turkey meat in 2015.
This year, Agropromkomplektatsiya-Kursk LLC will continue construction of eight pig farms in Konyshevsky and Dmitrievsky districts with a total capacity of 334,000 pigs. Kursk level’s target 2016 production level is at least 440,000 tonnes of meat.
