1792: foundation of Kursk Theatre, one of the oldest theatres in Russia.
1805: Mikhail Shchepkin, a talented serf actor, later a famous Russian actor whose acting skills contributed to the rise of a realistic approach to stage performances, made his stage debut in Kursk.
Other famous actors such as Nikolai Rybakov and Lyubov Mlotskaya, started their stage careers at Kursk Theatre.
The Theatre also witnessed performances by P.N. Orlenev, V.F. Komissarzhevskaya, K.A. Varlamov, V.I. Kachalov, A.A. Yablochkina and other fascinators of the Russian theatrical arts.
1937: in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of A.S. Pushkin’s death, among many other events, Kursk Drama Theatre was given the honor to bear the name of the great poet.
1983: new modern building of the theatre was opened.
